Dan Babb Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 (edited) I just noticed that the master cylinder is mounted to the transmission cross member. Guess I should have really looked over everything before buying that hemi. Since my plan is to use a different transmission (that will handle the power of the V8, I'm looking for suggestions on what to do about the master cylinder mounting. One thought I have is if I brought the transmission bracket to a friend's machine shop, I'm thinking I could have them make me a copy of that side and then I can put it back in the stock position. I don't want to cut-up the original pieces...maybe some day, I'd go back to the flathead stuff. Any other ideas? Here's what my truck looks like now. Edited July 11, 2010 by Dan Babb Quote
Mike Aubin Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 With the added power of the Hemi wouldn't you want to upgrade to a 2 stage master cylinder? If so then you will need to relocate the master anyways. Quote
Dave72dt Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 You might consider using an overhead pedal assy (firewall mounted) instead of the chassis mount. You can take a bunch of picturesn and measurements of the current setup and then build a rough mockup assy of heavy cardboard so when you mock up the hemi and trans you can check for clearances b efore spending a lot of money on steel fab. there's a frame crossmember under the cab that can be used for new bracket gusseting if needed. Fit the big pieces and move the little ones as needed. Quote
41/53dodges Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 not much for newer motors, but that looks nice! what is that, a vortec? Quote
41/53dodges Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 like i said, im not much for newer engines, so please explain the nice dirty details. (CI, HP, torque, etc.) Quote
Dave72dt Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 He has a build thread posted http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=14213 Quote
NiftyFifty Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 I did a thread on using a newer MC out of a 90 cherokee...could be a good time to go to the option now, but honestly it can't be very hard to make a quick bracket to mount the MC to the new crossmember...it does not have to be the same style as whats there and if it were me I would make it as a removable plate from the crossmember for easier removal of trans and engine. I'm sure your headed in the direction anyway, but also a MUST that you upgrade to front disc IMO...those old 1/2 ton drums/brakes will not appreciate the power and weight of your upgrade. Quote
Dan Babb Posted July 12, 2010 Author Report Posted July 12, 2010 Smallblockjunkie, Were those brake parts off the Corvette or did you get them somewhere else? If you have some part numbers, can you post them for me? Once I get the engine taken out and can take a look at things, I might just have a new bracket made up. I would like to stick to my budget and buying a whole new brake setup wasn't planned. But I'll wind up doing whatever is easier. If I make up my own bracket, I should be able to drill holes so I can mount up a newer master cylinder (dual resevoir). I remember seeing the cherokee post and saved the link to that. I will be doing a disc brake swap in the front. Also, my plans call for a rear-end swap, so I'll have what should be a better set of brakes in the back. Quote
smallblockjunkie Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 all my brake system is from the corvette the booster and mc is from ccp Quote
