ggdad1951
OK, all you guru's out there, here is a question for you: I'm having some new rear spring bolt/pins machined for my project, any idea of the metal spec I should go for? Is it hardened, etc?

ggdad1951
Will do thanks! Is there anything NAPA doesn't carry?
rustyzman
Good info. Unfortunately I checked with my NAPA and they just told me although the number is good, there are none locally or at the factory. I think I saw similar ones at Vintage Power Wagons though. May be worth a call. That same issue will be coming up on mine soon too. Let us know what you find out there.
ggdad1951
Yep here in minnesota same story......drrrrr! Well need material then, any ideas? I could prolly have some extra made if some one needs a few, would just charge my cost. So SOMEONE PLEASE tell me they know the right metal alloy! Dave72dt
Take a file to one of the old ones and see if it removes material. If it does, it just mild steel. If not, it's hardened.
ggdad1951
On second thought I seriously doubt they are hardened, that would make them brittle so I doubt they are. After some reasearch, I'm leaning towards 304SS. I plan on replacing all the bolts/pins so I'll have 4 with SOME wear that I'll prolly let go for a song and possibly some extras that will get made from my machinist. If you are looking for any in the future let me know. Edited July 1, 2010 by ggdad1951
