O T Pop Bottle Bombs...info at Snopes...

They say those can blow off some fingers, plus the drano shoots out and

burns the victim. And most people wouldn't think a thing about picking

up one of those bottles someone might leave in the mail box or just lying

in their yard. It just looks like some of the soda pop is left in it.

Hopefully the tactic isn't used very much, but you never know where

the weirdos are.

You don't have much time before they go off, so chances of someone picking it up in one piece is slim to none. the dry ice ones will take out a mail box or put a 5 gal bucket in orbit!;)

Read what Bob said, and what snoops has to say before you make such a comment.

They say the explosion comes when you move the container.

Once the perpetrator sits it down, it just lies there til moved.

Once moved, it apparently only takes about 30 seconds for it to

go off.

"Oh, I'll just pick up this empty bottle some passerby tossed into the

yard and put it in the trash"......boom

Ok so explain how they are set in place and the two don't mix till it is moved? the dry ice ones will start to build gas as soon as the ice hits the water.

I don't believe the article explained that part.

I would suppose they didn't put in the tin foil til just

before sitting it down, then the process would begin.

I wouldn't think someone could just carry around a supply

of those things already mixed.

I do wonder how long they would sit somewhere without

blowing up on its own. Maybe there's a timing element

there.

So, that's a good queston, Doc.

trust me, it works. works great with a gatorade bottle, nice thick plastic. the dranol has small amounts of sulfuric acid in it and that attacks aluminum, making hydrogen(strap a match to the side). if you set it up just right, then it could be made that way. it wont actually "explode", just blow a hole in the bottle. the only way to make it act that way is to partially contain the tin foil.

If you wad up the Al foil in the neck of the bottle, and then give it a good toss that jars the foil loose, you will have a ~30 seconds to wait for the explosion. Once the nephews leave on Monday, Grandpa and I will have to play in the open field by my house.

I live on the main road in our subdivision and find plastic bottles throw in my yard on occasion. From here on out, instead of picking them up and throwing them away, I'll be kicking them in to the neighbor's yard. ;)
