Niel Hoback Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 This came in the mail today. I don't know for certain yet, but I believe it came from an ebay sale won by my son and sent direct to me. Its been painted by someone so I will probably not be able to resist a little restoration. All four tires are good. Quote
Greenbomb Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 Cool! You raised a good son! That will be fun to play with. Quote
Captain Neon Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 I considered bidding on that auction my self, but chose not to. I am glad that you got this car, and are going to do some work on it. The irony is that I wanted to give it to my own father. Quote
randroid Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 Niel, I'd think that if it were full-scale you could grab a few sheets of open-grain 220, a couple rattle-cans of semi-gloss black, scrape the rust off the tires and either be invited to work for the local police force or have the most elusive taxi Humphrey Bogart ever rode in. Being a model makes it almost more difficult to restore properly yet being a model builder I can appreciate the challenge of doing it right. I wonder if this might be an opportunity to learn how to use the spray-on chrome that was featured last week to restore the bumpers and grill and, if you have a steady hand, the side trim? Maybe you could hire Malaysian girls to paint the components with one-bristle brushes? This could become an (eeks!) project! -Randy (Ben, you know of course your post out-posted anything that will be posted for some time to come? I tip my hat to you sir.) Quote
Niel Hoback Posted June 13, 2010 Author Report Posted June 13, 2010 Right now all I can do is sit here staing at it afraid to do anything. The hard rubber tires are still in great shape, but dirty. Again, I am afraid to mess with them because they look and feel brittle. I think I'll just look at it for a while longer. I've screwed up enough good stuff to know when to back off. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 Niel, is that made of metal or some other material? Nice gadget to have for your collection! Quote
Niel Hoback Posted June 14, 2010 Author Report Posted June 14, 2010 It is made of diecast potmetal. It has some slight damage to the roof and hood, which I will not mess with. I found a good color for it, and later tonight I will try some detailing. What do you all think the windows should be, black, silver, grey, or something else? The tires will remain natural rubber white. Yeah, Bob, my "collection" has gotten way out of hand. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted June 14, 2010 Author Report Posted June 14, 2010 Ben, bid on the next one that shows up. Give it to your Dad. If it makes him half as happy as I am with this one, you will have done a good thing. Quote
Captain Neon Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 I've gotten him a station wagon already. I can tell you are the guy to have this one. There is no way that I could have made it look that nice. It likely would have just set in my father's curio cabinet as purchased next to the station wagon. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 I think maybe the windows could be silver or light grey....... I see nobody else has ventured a guess yet. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted June 15, 2010 Author Report Posted June 15, 2010 You win, Bob, the windows are now flat aluminum. On to the wheel wells. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 Hmmm.....lucky guess, I guess. Looking forward to a picture of the completed resto. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted July 19, 2010 Author Report Posted July 19, 2010 Well, this is where I quit. Detail is a little less than perfect, but overall, I'm pretty happy with it. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 All four tires are good. Looks like the tires are a bit over inflated and most likley out of balance:rolleyes: Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 You win, Bob, the windows are now flat aluminum. On to the wheel wells. One things for sure...you don't have to worry about seeing out of the windows.Tom Quote
