1942cowdodge Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Has anyone here installed a square receiver (Hitch) to one of our old 1942 to 1948 Mopars? If so did you bolt the cross member for the receiver to the frame of the car? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) YES..41 Dodge business coupe, 51 Plymouth Suburban and a 54 Plymouth Savoy none of them are what you call readily noticeable at a casual glance.. take a few measurements, go to the junkyard and find a suitable donor...look to the smaller pickup, think Japanese..none will be without a few modifications which means cut and weld so if you are not into that yourself..consult a hitch shop and well, you know the drill..they going to ream you a good one I got mine donors form swap meets for about 10.00 a hit and the one I placed on my 54 was from a mid late 90's Nissan pickup..the other I am not sure of the origin..but my style and size seemed a very suitable for my applications...the 54 was by far the easiest to adapt..the 51 took major mods to the hitch and the rear frame member to the tune of widening the rear frame channel and rewelding all that...but hey..rarely do thinks come cheap without a lot of labor involved...less labor and the price is sky high for cutom fit..
