tysouthwick Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 So I am pulling the engine, but I need a diagram for the bell housing Im not sure if i took out all the bolts, can any one help me out??? Quote
Flatie46 Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 There's a lip that hangs over the flywheel thats probably what's got you snaged. Seems like I had to tilt the front of the engine up and pick up on the trans with a floor jack. Been a while, I'm sure someone else will chime in with more help. Quote
insaneradio Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 Just pulled mine on my P-15. There are a total of 6 bolts. Two on each side and two on the top. The lower bolts on the sides are larger than the other four. The top of the bell housing hangs over the flywheel. Being I had to remove the flywheel to resurface it, it was easiest to remove it at the same time as well. I removed both as a unit. Ofcourse you must remove the starter as well. I must admit it was a little tricky remounting the flywheel while supporting the bell housing!! It really was not THAT bad. Here is a pic I took this evening. Work in progress. Here is a pick showing the two upper mount holes. Hope this helps, Dave Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 Remove the trans and pull the engine with the bell housing attached. Having a load rotator will help to get the angle right to clear the steering gear, but it'll come out. Otherwise you'll have to remove the clutch and flywheel before you can seperate the engine from the bell housing. And as mentioned there should be 6 bolts. 2 on either side with the bolts coming through from the engine side. And 2 at the top that also attach the throttle linkage. There is also a dowel pin between the 2 bolts on either side. These dowels can be rather tight too. This may be what's hanging things up. Merle Quote
tysouthwick Posted May 25, 2010 Author Report Posted May 25, 2010 would it be easier to remove the whole floor pan to get to the trans or should i just leave it in? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 I have to remove the trans cover in the floor to take mine out, but then again I have a floor shift 4 speed. If you have a column shift 3 speed you can probably leave the floor alone. However, if you do take out all 3 floor pieces you'll have better access to everything. In fact you may need to take them all out to remove your pedals if you're pulling the engine with the bell housing attached. Merle Quote
insaneradio Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 would it be easier to remove the whole floor pan to get to the trans or should i just leave it in? Definately pull the floor pan. I am unsure if you can reach the two upper bolts with it in. The time spent pulling the floor pan is time saved trying to work around it. Dave Quote
