p24-1953 Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 okay so i have installed my electric fan and now the car runs at about 3/4 on the temp guage when the a/c and electric fan are on and 1/2 when off the a/c and fan are off. i would like to get the temp a little lower when the a/c is on and have found this? http://www.jegs.com/i/Flex-a-lite/400/1817/10002/-1 so would it be a gain to have the one additional blade? would it provide any more air flow across the radiator in stop and go traffic? randroid Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 P24, You might be ahead of the game if you created a duct for the fan you already have rather than using another fan. The temps you mentioned are what I would expect running ac but if you enclosed the rear of the radiator with a shroud that would funnel down to enclose the fan you would increase its efficiency many fold. You'll want the smallest gap possible between the blades and the shroud, such as measured in thousandths of an inch, but since that would be impossible without having a machine shop turn the fan you'll need to be satisfied with getting it as close as possible. Do a little research on ducted fans and you should find some pictures of one in action and it might be more enlightening than anything I have to say about it. -Randy Quote
41/53dodges Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 get an A**LOAD of computer fans and strap them to the radiator. those things really blow. Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 Is your electric fan thermostatically controlled? If you are driving for extended time at 40 MPH or above with the AC running what is your engine temperature? I suspect you are trying to solve a problem that does not exist. Quote
p24-1953 Posted May 30, 2010 Author Report Posted May 30, 2010 okay check the temp and i know my hand themometer is a little off but i was running 220 after sitting at a light the other day. so i am looking for a differnt fan, can someone tell me about this fan? Mopar 7 Blade Fan, Part Number 2863224 what year did it fit? how deep is it? will it fit our cars? what is the diameter? Quote

The engine I'm putting in my car is an industrial engine [230cu]used in fork lifts. It's got a 7 blade fan, you might try looking online for Yale parts if you can't find one thru the forum. Just anthor ave to check. Quote
p24-1953 Posted May 30, 2010 Author Report Posted May 30, 2010 does it have a number stamped on it? i had no luck searchign for a yale fan Quote
Flatie46 Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 Sorry, I was wrong it's just got six blades. I do have the part no if your interested though, Yale PN 567563. Quote
old rat 49 Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 One avenue to go down is a salvage yard shrouded electric fan. On my 86 Dodge D100 with a slant six I used the fan from a Dodge caravan and it fit the radiator nicely. It was a two speed and I never had any overheating problems here in the south. High speed kicked in when a/c came on. Will go this route when I upgrade to 12 volts. The oem fans are a heck of a lot cheaper than the aftermarket fans and electric Does give you an increase in power and a reduction in noise. Quote

I built one for my car and saw temps drop pretty good amount. Don't recall what the numbers were but they were noticable. There is a post in this thread that explains how I made my shroud. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=20917&highlight=shroud Quote

I've heard you'd gain HP by switching to an electric fan, wonder how much. Quote
p24-1953 Posted May 31, 2010 Author Report Posted May 31, 2010 well i have the stock shroud so i can check that off the list. well its olny the top half, but it is some what of a shroud. i have a pusher electric that i can turn on when the a/c is on and it keeps me from overheating but there is only 2.5" between the fan hub and the radiator so i can get on of the mack daddy 300 cfm puller fans to fit, so i gotta keep the mechanical. also it is difficult to find a higher rated cfm fan in 6 volt Quote
teardrop puller Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 P24 Normally adding a second mechanical fan actually slows down the air flow according to my A/C man. Use a second relay to turn the fan on any time the A/C is on, again from my A/C man. kai Quote
