Aaron Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Just called the local Exhaust Pro's to find out what it would cost to have them put a new exhaust system on including muffler for my B1B. He quoted me $300 bucks, does this sound resonable? I have been thinking about tackling this job myself, but wondering if I would be better off having it professionaly done. any comments? Quote
HanksB3B Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 you can always shop around. (Unless you live rural) I do recommend you have it done professionally for sure. I brought the entire exhaust from the header back to him. I think he charged me $176. I picked it up and temporarily "hung" it. After the truck was assembled, I drove it back to him and he positioned everything and hung it with the proper brackets at the proper locations (add'l $20). Hank Quote
jakenoklahoma Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 find a good local NON CHAIN muffler shop. I got a custom bent as original but higher up out of the way system for my CJ5 (with a Y pipe) for under $200.00. Our trucks have simple systems and unless you are going back completely original, a good exhaust system should not be expensive Quote
NiftyFifty Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 $300 sounds a little high for what's actually there...on the flat 6 there's only 1 bend on mine and then straight to the back and from there you can exit wherever you want. I might get creative and build a splitter pipe for the back to give a dual look, but still shouldn't be that much...LOL..I can sell you a good used system...built from galv. water pipe..this sucker should never rust Quote
JBNeal Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Definitely go with a local muffler shop. When I was ready for the 1 ton to go street legal, I brought the original parts to Lamb's in Waco, they bent the parts using my template and ordered the muffler I wanted to keep things stock. I even had them make a new tailpipe for my 1/2 ton since all it had was a 3" down pipe behind the muffler, right under the bed. They used the 1 ton as a template for the over-the-axle bends, cut it 18" shorter, and it fit like a glove. I think I spent less than $200 for both trucks, cuz I only bought the parts and opted to do my own installation. If your exhaust is too far gone to be used as a template, then definitely have a local muffler shop take a look at it. More than likely they'll know what you'll need right away, only needing to know what kind of muffler you want and how you want the tail pipe to be routed. The $300 quote sounds kinda high, but if that is installed with high dollar parts then ya might just be in the ballpark. Quote
Aaron Posted May 5, 2010 Author Report Posted May 5, 2010 Thanks for all the comments and good information... Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 I paid a local shop two hundred for a dual setup on my P-15. I supplied the mufflers and they supplied everything else from the exhaust manifold to the rear bumper including the chrome tips. Quote
Zeke1953 Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 Has anyone put a glasspack muffler on your truck? I was wondering how it would sound. Not original, but might be kind of cool. Zeke Quote
Aaron Posted May 7, 2010 Author Report Posted May 7, 2010 I'm wondering the same thing about glasspacks?? Quote
HanksB3B Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 Has anyone put a glasspack muffler on your truck? I was wondering how it would sound. Not original, but might be kind of cool. Zeke Anyone care for a hairnet? Hank Quote
MBF Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 I did-its got a growl when accellerating, and a drone at highway speeds. May have been ok when I was younger-but going to switch to a standard muffler to quiet it down a bit. Then I'll be able to hear the other stuff I haven't been able to worry about! Mike Quote
Zeke1953 Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 Thanks for the response, Mike. I think I'll stay with my stock mufler. Zeke Quote
