James_Douglas Posted February 26, 2007 Report Share Posted February 26, 2007 Gasket ? My master parts book does not show any gasket and I did not use any when I took mine apart or back together. What would the gasket seal ? The transmission has a gasket behind the input shaft housing. There is nothing to seal between the transmission and the bell housing. marfulle Posted February 26, 2007 Report Share Posted February 26, 2007 Make sure you cut a hole in the gasket where shel bizzy 48 in pointing. A metal shaft runs inside that hole and it does come out out the hole a mm or two. If you don't cut the hole it make shirfting into gear hard or you just can't do it. My 3 cents. marfulle Posted February 26, 2007 Report Share Posted February 26, 2007 With the trans out shift the gears around. You will see the shaft come out a tad. It did on mine and I cut a hole in it. ( I forget who told me but it can make a difference). Never leaked and shifts fine. Even if you cut the hole, it is still sealed all the way around. Good luck. 55 Fargo Posted August 20, 2007 Report Share Posted August 20, 2007 One question, I have the gasket made, I do have this vent hole covered, but what about the side hole, that runs from the same spot, what keeps the oil from exiting that spot.
