Don Coatney Posted May 7, 2010 Author Report Posted May 7, 2010 Don,Sounds like your hammer story about the original hammer that has only had its head replaced twice and the handle three times. What's left on the engine that was original? Jim Yergin That is Tim Adams hammer story. This morning I stepped into the garage and had a strong gasolene smell. Seems the new carburetor float must be sticking as there was a large puddle of gas on the floor that was dripping from the carburetor. So it looks like I will be doing some carburetor work this morning. Quote

WatchingWolf Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Today I installed a new piston, rings, wrist pin with keepers, a new head, a new carburetor, a new fuel pump, new electric starter wear parts, new gaskets (the head gasket was made from a sheet of lead supplied from Briggs), New air filter and pre-filter, and re-installed the used Champion spark plug without cleaning it as it looked good. Installed the engine in the tractor, filled it with oil, and it started as soon as I cranked it. It now runs great as I had to tweek the carburetor a bit. Just got done cutting the front yard. Will do the back yard tomorrow. Don! $600 worth of parts and you won't pony up $1.99 for a new CJ8 sparkplug? I would have done it just on the basis of general principal..... Quote
