I just rewired my '48 and when I took it out for a test ride the car seemed like it didn't want to take any gas. You'd push on the pedal and it would stumble. At steady speed it runs fairly well. I advanced the timing abit, between 6-10 degrees btdc, it helped a little but it still is not running the way it did. I can't figure out how rewiring the car would throw it off like that. Everything is hooked up right, all gauges function. I checked the advance unit on the dizzy with a vacuum gauge and it moves with 5psi. Any suggestions on what I should try next? It does have a new coil on it. I'm running points with a slightly built 218. Thanks.

Rewiring shouldnt change how it runs. I'd check the wires to the coil. Make sure they are connected well.

Sounds to me ilke your carburetor acceleration pump is not working.

That's what I was thinking because the first time out I stopped to get a cup of coffee at the gas station. Pull out and the car dies. Crank a little and no go. Take my trusty can out of the trunk and walk back 1/2 block to the station and put some gas in, fires up. Pull in the station and put about 6 gallons in. Go home and pull the sender and I had a little over 1/2 tank. It shouldn't have quit like that. I checked the carb for spray and it seemed to be getting a good shot of gas when it's sitting. I'm gonna double check the carb and also look at the wires to the coil and inside the dizzy. Like they say, when you think it's the carb, check the ignition. Thanks for the advice.

Ended up being that little wire inside the dizzy. Broke off at one of the terminals. Shoulda looked at that before troubling everybody with the post. Thanks again. Wayne P.

Ah that dang wire inside the dizzy. I think we've all fallen victim to that thing.
