41/53dodges Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 i know that there is already probably a thread like this somewhere, but i have a specific question. what size radial tire do most people put on these days? i think i was 215-80-16 or something like that. i have 6.50-16 right now. the other thing, what do you do for the whole tube/tubeless thing with these newer tires? can our rims be made tubeless? or do we need tubes for these newer tires, too? austinsailor Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 I just bought a set of tires for my 48 B1B last week. After asking a lot here, I bought 215 R85 16 10 ply tires. 195 85 r 16 were suggested, but I couldn't find anyone who had even a listing on them or 205 r85 16's. It drives quite nice with them and there is plenty of clearance. I put them on 16 " wheels from my 42 Plymouth, 4" wide. Before I installed them I sandblasted and painted the wheels. They hold air just fine, no tubes. I was worried as well. 2 wheels had the valve stem holes rusted pretty bad. I took my wire welder and welded the holes solid, ground them off flat inside and out, then drilled new holes 180 degrees away. Gene G. Quote
bach4660 Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 I went with the 235/85's they looked better than the 215 Quote
aero3113 Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 (edited) They do sell radials that look like the original bias ply. They are expensive but if you are lucky you can find a set on ebay for a good price. I was able to buy mine for around $650. I got lucky and they were new! Mine are white walls but they also have all black. Edited March 6, 2010 by aero3113 Quote

41/53dodges Posted November 5, 2010 Author Report Posted November 5, 2010 do the 235's have any issues mounting on old rims? do they rub the frame or anything? Quote
