P-12 Tommy Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Hey guys, I just finished installing an oil filter housing and I'm wondering if I'm supposed to prime the housing or make sure everything is tight and start it and let the housing fill up on it's own? Not sure:confused: Any help is appreciated. BTW......here's a few pics. Tom Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 No need to prime a by-pass oil filter. Quote
greg g Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Just make sure you check your oil level after the engine has run for a while. As the filter fills it takes some capacity from the pan and it stays there when you shut down, so you might need a 1/2 a quart to refill. Some people are persnickity about such things but I always run mine at of just above the add line. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted January 16, 2010 Author Report Posted January 16, 2010 Good advice! Thanks Greg. Tom Quote
Lou Earle Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 Run your engien on a drive for say 5 /10 miles to get it hot. Then feel of the by pass filter casing- If hot it is working if cold or just barely warm by pass is not opening and probably needs new spring Quote
