after putting everything back together i now have a squeal when you hold the clutch pedal in. but it is not every time, it will do it if it is in gear or not. but it is only happens about every 3 or 4th time. what is it? is the throw out bearing going out? or is it possible that this is because it has been out of the car for 6 weeks and will go away as things get lubricated again? (i can hope cant i?)

maybe... i didnt take it all the way to the crank shaft, was i supposed to lube something at the pressure plate?

if so what can i do?

the book says a throwout bearing makes noise in neutral only. a pilot bushing in gear only mine does both, but the sound is the same. if it is either of these and i continue to drive it will it be a catastrophic failure? should i just keep driving it for a little longer to confirm thats what it is.

did you forget to lube the pilot bushing in the rear center of the crankshaft..?
Tim, your thoughts---my tranny shop said that you should not lube the pilot bushing--if you have an oilite you should soak it overnite in tranny fluid before install, then lightly put some on the input shaft end when you install tranny. They said grease will eventually gall the shaft and you get noise. I did have some noise and some galling on the shaft when I removed the tranny for the install of the new engine. I will try their approach on the tranny when I put her back in............Lee

Right...no grease...and if you did not install a new bushing...you would have to lube it..oilite cannot be removed without damage..thus the oiling of the used bush...this can be done with saturated cotton ball or equiv. to ensure there is enough source oil for the bush to draw from....best approach overall is not to risk even a good looking bushing as it could have been overheated at one time and damage the bush though even not enlongated..if enlongated you risking clutch chatter and the eventual wear on the input gears..the bearing is so economical and easy to change it would be false economy not to address this when doing a clutch package...Other manufactuers require different lubes..therefore it is always best to read and ensure the proper lube and lube technique...others have needle bearing exposed cage, needle with seal, some are sealed bearing one side with a reservoir in the back of the recess of the flaywheel..others are perma seal both sides..some are cheezy from the factory and usually fail prior to the clutch being worn out..
