Jim Saraceno Posted December 25, 2009 Report Posted December 25, 2009 I just watched A Christmas Story again. I laugh my head off every time I see that thing. When Ralphie decodes the message from Little Orphan Annie only to find it's a "crummie commercial" I'm always reminded of the '56 Chevy. I used to pass a Chevy dealer on my way to grade school every day. Weeks before the '56s came out, the dealer put a new one in the showroom floor. It was covered so you couldn't see it but you could see the outline. It looked like there were huge fins both in the front and back. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure you could tell which one was the front or the back. The day of unveiling finally came. When I saw the new car, it was just a warmed over '55! All those lines had been a ruse to throw off what the new car was going to look like. Merry Christmas to all! There I was, 5 years old and I knew I had been taken for a ride! Quote
pflaming Posted December 25, 2009 Report Posted December 25, 2009 Jim, story goes that Ford held a special 'grand opening' banquet for a number of guests. On the stage was the 'new model'. After a bit of 'hype' they opened the meeting to questions. One was: "when do we see the new model"? there was no NEW model, so the moderator faked it and said it was behind the curtain but not ready for a revealing, just wanted to check if they wanted something new" Three years later the Taurus was introduced. So the story goes. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted December 26, 2009 Report Posted December 26, 2009 My daughter just got me the 2-disc set of "A Christmas Story". I'm a Jean Shepherd fan as well. I'm looking forward to seeing the extra features on the second disc. Quote
