Fernando Mendes Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 How can I know if the piston cup(primary) in BMC is between relief port and supply port in released position?Probably right answers(or nobody):1)When the piston arrives in piston stop,2)Turning in counter or clockwise direction the piston push rod(as far as? how much?),3)Adjusting minor & major brake lining shoes,4)When the brake pedal travel is about(??").This is a great question I have along this years. How do I do? Merle Coggins Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Fernando, All I can tell you is that if your brakes are fully releasing, and not dragging, then your master cylinder piston must be returning all of the way. As for adjustments, I used the methods described in the P15-D24.com Tech Tips section. http://www40.addr.com/~merc583/mopar/p15pdf/brake.pdf since I, like most of us, didn't have access to an Ammco or Miller tool. Even after much adjusting I still had a lot of pedal travel and wasn't happy with my brakes. I then adjusted the push rod between the pedal and the M/C until I was satisfied with the amount of free play and the brake application felt right. If you have too much free play the pedal will have to travel too far before the brakes begin to apply. To fix this you need to lengthen the push rod adjustment. And of course too little free play may cause the brakes to not release fully. If this is the case you need to shorten the push rod adjustment. I can't tell you exactly how much free play mine has. I adjusted it until it felt good to me. However, I just scanned a few pages from my manual that may help you. Good Luck, Merle Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted December 16, 2009 Author Report Posted December 16, 2009 Ok,thanks.I printed and now I will read. Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted December 17, 2009 Author Report Posted December 17, 2009 Merle, did you see in figure 22,travel A+travel B+travel C=1 3/4" to 2"?.And ""travel B can best be determined by looking into the master cylinder reservoir through the filler cup opening while moving the pedal slowly.""---This is almost impossible,no? Merle Coggins Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 You can't be in 2 places at the same time? I was thinking the same thing when I read it. I guess you'll need a helper. Merle Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted December 17, 2009 Author Report Posted December 17, 2009 My psychiatrist says the same thing(anxious). Merle my abdomen can't stay on the left fender and I can't look into the MC through the filler cup,how can I see? ""After the free play is taken up,fluid should be forced up through the relief port(Fig 9)"" Quote
