Oldguy48 Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 What material did you use for the "core" of the panel? Quote
JoelOkie Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 Nice job Fred. Looks impressive! Joel Quote
55 Fargo Posted November 28, 2009 Author Report Posted November 28, 2009 Thanx for the "thumbs up" Guys. It is period correct, except I did not docarpet on the bottom 5 inches of the panel with a bound edge, I like it without. Tha material is a dark blue auto upholstery velvet. The seats are being done in the same material with factory pleats, and sewing, with the exception of the front seat frame and it the frame backing, will be a grey vinyl, hope I am not making a mistake going 2 tone on the seats.........Fred PS armrest will be the same material as the door panles, was going to go grey vinyl on the armrests , but changed my mind...... 55 Fargo Posted November 28, 2009 Author Report Posted November 28, 2009 What material did you use for the "core" of the panel? 1/8 inch thick, upholstery backer board, black colored compressed cardboard. Comes in 40 X 60 inch sheets. I then used 1/4 inch foam, adhered to the panel using 3M 777 adhesive spray, I used the old embossing strips, no foam goes over this, other wise the embossment would not be seen......Fred Quote
RobertKB Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 Looks good, Fred. I really like the colour. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 Great job Fred! I'm about to start on my door panels. I've been out looking around for 1/4 foam and some material for the doors. Tom Quote
55 Fargo Posted December 4, 2009 Author Report Posted December 4, 2009 Here are some pics of the door panels I made, and have installed into my 47 Chrysler. The seats have not come back yet, the armrests need to be made, new headliner, carpet, and windlace to follow. I am not 100% satisfied with my work on my door panels, but will have to live with the results...............Fred Quote
JoelOkie Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 They look good, Fred. I guess that any of us that are 100 % satisfied with most anything we do are few and far between. I think your coupe is going to be pretty darn nice. Joel Quote
Jim Yergin Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Fred looks great. My experience is that you will be your own toughest critic. Everyone else will just admire your work, especially those of us who know what it take to get those results. Jim Yergin Quote
