Two questions:

My hood bows in the middle. Should there be a brace to keep it up. I was going to put down the felt strip and the hood hits it.

second question: what do you use to stick the felt strip to the car? Brads? Screws? I recall seeing a nail type of thing with a thread on it. I can't remember what it's called.

Right now I've got to figure out how to get the hood raised in the middle.

some hoods has braces and some didn't. Guess they firgured the cowl would hold it in positioi when closed, and it didn't matter what shape it took when opened You can use screws, I have seen some wih pop rivets, and I think the nails are available from the restoration supply houses, if you want to go original.

If your hood hits the felt strip, you probably just need to adjust the hood a little. Either move it forward slightly, or your hood brackets are set too low. I don't have a hood brace either, and don't have a problem with the hood hitting anything.

Don't know what year your car is but my 49 has a brace that goes across the hood from left to right toward the back edge. There's also a small shelf -like contraption attached to the cowl for the back edge to rest on when the hood is closed. The weather stripping along the edge of my cowl is held on by tiny nails with a twist shank.

As the hood hinges wear the springs that hold the hood open apply pressure to the hood causing the hood to kick out at the rear. On mine without the springs connected the hood fit perfect, after I connected the springs the rear of the hood kicked out at the fender line. After much adjusting the hood opens and closed and fits everywhere but the lower corners in the rear. My hood does not have a hood brace to tie the rear corners of the hood together and prevent the lower corners from kicking out. I think new or remanufactured hinges would fix the problem.
