Robert Smith Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Now,I know that they didn't make a whole lot of cars in '42 because of the war but, for some of those who have '42 Plymouth's here, are the parts pretty much the same with a P-15? I'm assuming that they are... it's the same body, many same trim parts and the motor is pretty much the same... but, are the interior trim parts the same as a P-15? How about the window crank knobs and such? Are they the same as a P-15? I'm asking this because a friend of mine just bought a '42 four door sedan, he's going to need some interior parts... I know, I'm sure it's going to be a tough one! Well, just thought I'd post these questions for him so, if anyone knows where to get the correct parts or parts that would work and look the same, I'd pass it on to him! Thanks again, =R Quote
Normspeed Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Hi Rob, you and your friend might take a ride over to Glendora and take a good look at that nice 42 coupe for sale on Rte 66. Heck, you might even bring a digital camera along. The car isn't bone-stock but pretty close. Someone on the forum did mention that it's a 42 but apparently has a P15 hood. Quote
Young Ed Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Rob I've got an extra 42 hood trim if he needs it. Priced to sell! I believe lots of the little trim things are different. The gauges are the same size but different colors. Quote
Jim Yergin Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Rob, One place to check is Chet's web site with the 1936-1948 Parts book (http://chetscoins.com/1948p15/DocumentWeb/). I believe the password to access the book is "Password." You can at least compare part numbers for 1942 versus 1946-48. For example, a quick review shows that the window cranks have a different part number in 1942 but the inside door handle has the same part number as the ones used in 1941 and 1946-48. Hope it helps. BobT-47P15 Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 42 Plym gauges are the same as P15, only have bronze colored backing. You can simply switch the backing. Tail lights, trunk items, and parking lights, grille, hood ornament all different on a 42. Also rear fenders have larger opening. Window cranks may be the same. Quote
