Cpt.Fred Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 ... does anyone know if they are interchangeable? i am planning to lower my '40 P-10 and i can buy a pair of front springs from a '39 dodge. the plan is to put my originals aside and shorten the dodge springs instead, so i can rebuild to original riding height if i want to. is that possible? or does anyone know what other types of springs, maybe from more modern cars, are suitable? thanks, guys! Andydodge Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Fred, I would think that the 39 and 40 Dodges would have the same or very similar front springs.....I have a 1940 Dodge, while I have not physically compared the 39 & 40 springs I have looked at a few of these front ends and unless some ones says they are different then I'd be prepared to consider them very close to each other....... and I have installed the front springs from a 1956 Ford 4dr sedan in my 1940 Dodge 4 dr Sedan, they were a little thicker and I cut 3/4 off one coil to lower the car...............dunno if this helps....andyd Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 thanks, andy, of course it helps:) how many inches did you get out of that 3/4 coil? i got a few pics from the springs and i saw that they're flat on one side and open on the other... since i haven't taken mine out yet i can't tell if it's the same or not... anyone? desoto1939 Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Fred: It is a pleasure to provide information. Thats what this great hobby is all about. I have bicycled across this great counrty of the USA, yes bicycled from Virgina to California. I met some great people along the trip and some went out of their persoanl way to make sure that I had a memberable trip and even provided food and shelter for free. One person did this for me and all this farmer asked for instead of money is that i pay it back by helping people. This is what the entire world should be doing for each other and it would be a better place for all. I have some great cross ref books and can help with electrical parts and also the hollander interchange for the years that you are working on, if you need you can write tome directly ar desoto1939@aol.com Send me your home email and I will send you pictures of my car. rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com Quote
