Reg Evans Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Anybody here have a speedo cable they want to sell for my 52 1/2 ton/4 speed. Either the whole thing or just the inner cable will do. I know I could have an inner cable made but the nearest shop is 50 miles from here since the local shop owner retired. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Reg I'm pretty sure Napa carries cables. Do you have one of those handy? I think they have certain lengths so you'd just have to get the next longest one and deal with some extra length Quote
H Suhling Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Reg I got mine from Carquest the end that goes in the transmission is formed and you cut to the length you need and sweg the end on that goes in the back of the speedometer. If you have your old cable it makes it a whole lot easier to get the length right the first time cause you only get one chance per cable. Harvey Quote
Reg Evans Posted September 16, 2009 Author Report Posted September 16, 2009 Thanks Ed and Harvey, Where would a guy get a tool to swedge the end square. I tried squaring the end in my vice once and that made a mess. I found the problem this time finally. I kept pulling this cable out at the speedo end and thought everything looked fine so I would put it back in. Changed the speedo a couple of times and of course that didn't work. So......the last little bit at the drive gear end broke and hid from me in the drive gear tube. Ya little SOB ! GOTCHA !!!! Quote
carl b51 Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Reg I have one out of a 51 1/2 ton with a 4 speed it could use a new home if this will help. Carl Quote
Reg Evans Posted September 17, 2009 Author Report Posted September 17, 2009 Thanks much for the offer Carl. I'm going to put mine back together with the missing end and see if it works anyway. I'll let ya know how it turns out. Quote
H Suhling Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Reg The tool needed to swedge the end on comes with the cable. The end in your picture is the factory end the other end is round and the end piece is swedged on it. Harvey Quote

H Suhling Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Reg I will look around the shop tomorrow to see if I can find one they are a small one time use throw away item. Harvey Quote
H Suhling Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Reg Here is a picture of the crimping tool supplied with a cut to fit speedometer cable. To install you cut round end of cable to fit allowing for end piece, slip end piece on cable slide tool onto end piece and give it a good lick with a hammer. And it is on to stay. Harvey Quote
