Battery cable prices at local store.......

Called our local Battery Warehouse store this afternoon to inquire about

prices of 0 and 00 gauge cable and ends.

They say they have cable in both red and black color.

Cost per foot of 0 gauge is $4.99

Cost per foot of 00 gauge is $5.99

Cost of ends is $3 each.

Then add our local/state sales tax.......maybe another $5 bucks or so.

So, just add your needed length, figure to feet, add cost of ends, some

tax and you'll be pretty close.

If anyone needs cables, I can get them, then ship. Would have to

determine cost of that.

Bob,

I'll get my cables locally so I won't be in need of the services, but I'd like to comment on what a nice gesture I thought that was on your part. There seems to be a thread floating through here now-and-then about the different qualities, how to make them, etc, and your post covered a new aspect.

Thanks.

Thanks for the offer also.

Question regarding the ends?

Are thenysodering the ends on, or crimping, or are these the bolt on style?

Also kost of the cars in the 30s had a cloth covering over the cables. Can they put the black cloth wire loom on the cables so to make them look period correct instead of having the plastic cover showing.

This is only an issue for people that are looking for replacement cables that look to be authentic. For us drivers it does not matter so much.

I am fairly certain that TSC and other Farm and Fleet type stores carry O gauge battery cables on the shelf. They aren't cheap, but not real expensive either. No waiting is the big deal. I am using the woven ground strap type for the positive side. You can buy it by the foot with molded on ends.

My idea of cheap will surely differ from your idea of cheap.

When i made my cables i went to a welding supply store and bought OO welding cable. They sell it by the foot and welding cable is much more flexable than battery cable. Then i got the lugs for the ends at the hardware store.

Put the lugs in a vise, and after stripping the ends of the cables, heat the lugs with a propane torch while feeding in solder, when they are full simply jam the cables in, when they cool you will have a nice soldered cable that is VERY flexable.

Before putting the lugs on put some shrink tube on the cable, then when they cool slide the shrink tube down and heat it, it looks very professional. I put red shrink on the cable that is going to be hot and black on the ground cable.
