Oh, I got it but am immune to glue jokes at this point: In the vintage aircooled VW community, of which I'm part as well, there's an ongoing joke to use Henry's roofing tar as the magic fix for everything: Leaky windows? Caulk them with roofing tar. Engine drops oil? Drop some roofing tar in the filler tube. Pin holes in the floor boards? Slather them with roofing tar. Talking about a 'lifetime' repair - it will only technically fix the car for life because it will not last long after that. I'm hoping noobies don't listen to any of this advice. Quote

I bought Mar-K's bolt kit as well but haven't taken inventory of it. So it has enough bolts for one to bolt it into the sides, then? I wonder why they didn't poke holes into the angle irons: It has holes for the area that meets up with the wood but not the sides - for them, it would be an easy thing to do.. Quote
coW52Dodge Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Posted October 2, 2009 Putting the bed on today. The project has taken a while since I started it because I used this really tough boat varnish called "Epifanes". It is really tough stuff but every single coat takes over 24 hours to properly dry. It has six coats. Quote
Mario Loya B1B Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Its coming along nicely REM! Quote
coW52Dodge Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) Thanks, Mario! Laying underneath, installing and tightening all the bolts, felt like putting an erector set together in a broom closet, laying down. It definitely tests your patience, putting lock washers on that seem to cooperate too well with gravity. I just got done: I still have to mount the spare tire holder on the side but want to fix the running board first. Since the lack of there being wood caused the box to flop around significantly, the tire mount must have tore a hole in the running board. I ended up attaching the L brackets to the sides by means of bolts. On the outside, I put acorn nuts on so it looks kinda gnarly, almost like it belongs. Edited October 2, 2009 by coW52Dodge Quote
