falconvan,

The closest I ever came to owning a Ford Falcon van was putting a rebuilt engine in a '61 a friend owned back when I was in college. It was a trip but the van ran well.

My attitude toward stock colors is such that I was hung-up on 'Cruiser Maroon' for a number of years. Imagine that deep Maroon contrasting with all of that stainless steel glistening in the sun, but I can't afford a professional paint job any more than I can buy a compressor and build a booth. What I've decided to do is a two-tone paint job with a vert light green on top and a very deep green below because two-tone colors were never offered on our cars but I think they look classy. That, and I'm planning to roll Rustoleum.

It's your car so don't try to please anyone other than yourself. Go for it!

You're ready for paint already?

I wish; my wife and I are just looking at colors. I'm going to try and hit it hard over the fall and winter and be ready for paint by next summer. We were looking at maroon but lately it seems like every other street rod at the local car shows is painted maroon. I like to keep a stock looking outer appearance so I thought I'd see what some of the factory colors were.

Do not have a complete listing, but here are the colours for Canadian 1946-1948 Plymouths. Unlike Detroit, Windsor did change some of the colours over the period. Also, these colours were used on all Canadian-built Plymouths, Dodges, DeSotos and Chryslers.

1946 -

4001 Black

4002 Tuxedo Blue

4003 Regal Maroon

4005 Crown Maroon

4008 Gull Grey

4012 Marine Blue (light)

4017 Crown Maroon

1947 -

4001 Black *

4002 Tuxedo Blue *

4003 Regal Maroon *

4005 Crown Maroon *

4008 Gull Grey

4012 Marine Blue (light)

4017 Crown Maroon *

4020 Riviere Mist

4021 Bermuda Beige

1948 -

4008 Gull Grey *

4012 Marine Blue (light)

4017 Crown Maroon *

4032 Ecuador Blue

4033 Hamilton Green

4035 Gunmetal

Ecuador Blue

Crown Maroon

The * denotes a colour carried over from the previous year. 1946 was the first year Chrysler of Canada used enamel paint on their cars.

If anyone can fill in the blanks, with names, colour chips, DuPont, CIL, CPI, etc. codes, it would be most appreciated.
