Plymouthy Adams Posted August 4, 2009 Author Report Posted August 4, 2009 back in the day when I was a pipe smoker I purhcased most my pipes "Dr. Grabow" brand and these were briar...I still have one of my merchaum pipes and a decorative porcelin bowl from Germany.. I would find it hard to think balsa would hold up to a constant lit char of tobacco..I do think the balsa was used as a filter in some pipe makes though Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 I have 7-8 pipes all but one (the long bent one pictured) are Medico brand filtered pipes. My dad always smoked filtered pipes and I learned from him. Most of the moisture from pipe smoking comes from your mouth. So a pipe is a personal thing. I cannot believe people actually buy and smoke used pipes. I can buy a month's supply of pipe tobacco for less than twenty bucks. I have never burned holes in my clothes from smoking tobacco in my pipes. That stuff smoked in pipes that has seeds that pop will burn holes in your clothes:rolleyes: The long stemmed bent pipe was a gift for being best man in a friends wedding in the early 70's so I have had it for a long time.
