Plymouthy Adams Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 in my dreams last night...I was working on refitting a door with new glass and silencers..will this remodel of the house ever get complete..it is tough to keep a 100 yer old house looking like its a 100 when remodel as so many building products have changed over the years. Like when someone asked why I put a console in my 41 Dodge as it never had one before..I state that if one was placed in a car in 1940 it would have been stock in 41..just because it did not exist at that time does not make it out of place today. Olddaddy Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 There must be a psychic connection between us hillbillies. My car speaks to me as I walk past it in the shop.........to get my tools to work on the infernal bathroom. My 100 year old house is demanding attention, supported by my wife, and egged on by my daughter. My poor Plymouth sits waiting her turn.........when will this house work ever end? Quote
IronMike Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Guys, I can relate....... My cars stand neglected right now as my shop becomes a staging area for construction materials. Just finished my bathroom remodel, getting ready to tackle some under the house structural issues. My house is 71 years young and seems to take up most of my mythical leisure time these days....... PatS.... Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Didn't "they" tell us back in the 50's that by the 90's we would only be working 5 hr days and 3 day weeks and have all the rest leisure time??? Of course, they also told us that ducking under our wooden school desks bent over kissing our a$$e$ would protect us from a nuclear blast. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 11, 2009 Author Report Posted July 11, 2009 Pat..some where in that bunch of lies we were told that when we got older there would be less demand on us physically and time out the butt..to quote my dad, "I've been placed on a bicycle with no brakes on the top of a hill and given a giant push.." I am truly amazed at how solid this old house is..the areas I have corrected have been from early mods done by folks who where cut and cover artists and generally ripped the older PO's off to no end...however not all was done that way..lots of upgrades still hanging in there along with the main structure..coffee break over..back to work.. james curl Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 I am facing a shoulder operation to correct a tear in my rotator cuff, I scrapped and sanded and painted two and one half sides of my 88 year old house before I was unable to lift the fork to my mouth because of the pain. Hired a fellow to finish the job, he thought he would be finished by Christmas. He left for Brazil the first of June, he worked some nights until 3:00 AM to finish before he left. It looks like I will be out of commission for at least six weeks after the surgery. Have to do a stress test next Thrusday to get my doctor to release me to the surgeon for the operation. So be careful doing the repetitive over head jobs as that can cause trouble with the rotator cuff. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 11, 2009 Author Report Posted July 11, 2009 I truly feel your pain.. I tore the rotator on my right side..boy was it painful..I did check into the operation..doc said it would be a simple procedure for him but put me on the side for about 6 weeks or better...he ask what I had been doing about it since I tore it..I told him working like never before..putting up with the pain..he told me that I could continue to do that and it would get better over time if I could stand the pain in the meantime..been years..only time I really feel it if I sleep on it wrong...after about 30 minutes stirring it is back to where I don't even feel it..if I still try to lift high or way around my back I can still feel it but compared to when I first tore it..I am in great shape... Rodney Bullock Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Tim, I don't have a problem with your car calling out to you....it's when you start answering back that I begin to worry:eek: GOT MILK! Free time is very expensive, I am trying to get my bathroom redone as we speak. My dear ,understanding, pushy, highly motivated wife can't understand that before any of this stuff I have accumulated gets installed I need a nap;) then some tea, cookies and a big bowl of ice cream. Then my nap. She had one of those surgeries that open vains in her leg. I will be so glad when she goes back to work. Then I can call the guy. When she gets home everything is installed and then well you know I'm the hero:D Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 11, 2009 Author Report Posted July 11, 2009 Rodney..you're despictable...but it may work..! Quote
