Jims50chrysler Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I can't belive my luck...some of you may remember I was into rebuilding carbs last week or so and that the carb kit would not fit my "fluid drive" carb but would fit my second carb for my dual carb set-up so I was not too choked up about it. Well I ordered the "right" Kit from Roberts and when I recieved it today I was suprised to find that it is the same as the first kit so I called over there and the fellow that I was talking to said that is the right one and I would have to modify the top gasket for the second plunger in the "fluid drive" carb. Has anyone else ever had to do this?? Jim Quote
Normspeed Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I think Roberts is incorrect on that. Some time back, I helped Grandadeo rebuild one of the carbs like you have. He got his kit from NAPA and it had the exact gaskets needed. Maybe he kept a note of the part number... Quote
Young Ed Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 The carb kits we get from napa seem to have 1/2 dozen different gaskets. Might even still be some laying around. Quote
Jims50chrysler Posted June 30, 2009 Author Report Posted June 30, 2009 worst thing is I specifically asked for the "fluid drive" kit and gave the carb number as I already had bought the "standard" kit and didn't want to use it because it was wrong....I thought all the extra money for the Roberts Kit was because it was the right one with the right top gasket and hardware for the second plunger. Normspeed Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Young Ed gave me an idea. I took out all the stuff I never tossed out from my carb kits. Here, on the left, is a fluid drive type carb and the top gasket that goes with it. On the right is a standard type. I don't know how you could modify a standard gasket to work. However, there were some other gaskets at the lower left that could definitely be trimmed and look like they would work. I can mark one up and mail it to ya if needed. Also, note the different gaskets used between the middle and base of the carbs, there are at least 4 variations there with different hole configurations and bore sizes. Shoot me a PM if you can't round up what you need, and I'll mail to you. Oh, and there was a box label in there, I think from Grandadeo's kit. NAPA Echlin part number 2-5066-A. Quote
adam_knox Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 The one from Bernbaum's has the right outline in the gasket material, but I do not know of a current kit that makes a second plunger kit. At home I have the number of the company that rebuilt mine before I bought it in 2003. They may sell the gasket kit with the second plunger. (I don't recommend their work though, four years after the rebuild the darn thing was leaking!) Post if you do find the end of the rainbow! Quote
