randroid Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 I like to use original parts whenever possible, but occasionally I've needed to manufacture a part from scratch, the linkage from the throttle pedal through the firewall is an example. I've since found an original and was surprised that the one I made was only .25" off on the large bend, and it got me wondering how many others in this forum have done the same. Anyone got a story to tell or a pic to post? -Randy Quote

Norm's Coupe Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Randy, I think several of us have had to make a part here or there that we couldn't locate. I had looked for a metal strip that goes over the door that holds the headliner up over the front door for several years. Couldn't find one that was in any better condition than my original one was. The original one was rusted through in the center of it and didn't look like it would do a good job. Finally gave up looking and made my own. Once painted and put in the car it looked just like the original, only new. This picture was taken before I painted the new one. I also fabricated my own floor pan, for the left front floor over the master cylinder. Also new seat bracket that goes under the floor for the seat to mount to and new body mount brackets for the left side to mount the body to the frame and rocker panel. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Randriod..I have made just two this evening..but I am modifying my car and these home growns are everywhere..Installing the power window, door opening solenoids and bear claw door latches from a donor car plus the power door locks..too many to list. Even my door poppers are of a home variety as the ones in the kit were overkill and had no application for my vehicle..all my latch levers are custom bent as I did one door..I reversed it for the other and it installed like factory..sweetest part is that they all came from the donor car so I bent them all straight, used a weld wire for mock-up then bent the real deal. My relays are now mounted and I am in the process of assigning them a slot in the fuse box. Kinda cool out tonight..but we be out there for a bit... It is good that you were able to make your linkage and have it work...sure save money and be honest with you..anyone else would have to do the same as these old cars are not followed in the industry and you are left to your resources or pay out the yang to a shop. Good show... Quote

anthonyb Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Here's the throttle linkage I fabbed up for my 52 PilotHouse. This doesn't count recreating the firewall for the 318 poly. Quote
Normspeed Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Here's a little something I fabbed up once.... Quote
