Jerry Roberts Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 ....<snip> Should there be a heat block between the carb and the maniforld? ....<snip> There should be a very thick gasket there that would block a lot of the heat transfer . Quote
greg g Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 You can get phenolic spacers from Langdons stovebolt, but you might need to gt longer studs. You can also fabricate a sheetmetal heat shield to mount under the float bowl. There was one on my 56 engine. It goes over the carb mounting studs between the manifold and the carb, with the hole size matching the manifold. You will need another gasket one below the shield and one above it. Most hot start problems are caused by fuel perculation expanding the fuel in the bowl till it over flows, so yes you are starting a flooded carb. Lower the float level a bit, and hold the gas pedal WOT while cranking. Todays fuel has a tendancy to be more heat sensitive than the old stuff. Quote
