dirty dan Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 I came across this today. I've already switched my ride to 12V, but thought some here would be interested...(low amperage) Power InverterWill operate 12 volt negative ground accessories from 6,8 or 12 volt positive ground electrical systems. When used in a 6 volt positive ground system, it can continuously supply more than 2.1 amps with the engine off, and about 2.5 amps with the engine running at a fast idle. In a 12 volt positive ground system it can supply 4.0 amps (min) and 4.7 amps (max) continuous duty. The PGPI-HC uses a common ground so isolation is not necessary, and because of its efficient design, its current draw is negligible when no load is applied (10 milliamps). NOT RECOMMENDED FOR: Power actuated door locks, trunk release solenoids, air conditioner clutches, fans, blowers, power windows, or other electromechanical devices. #PGPI-HC $59.00 http://www.customautosound.com/ Quote
busycoupe Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 I have one of those in my D24 coupe. It works great and powers my new Sony radio/CD player just fine. It is not super powerful however. Remember, 2.5 amps at 6 volts is only 15 watts. At 12 volts it is still only 30 watts. You aren't going to run your floor shaking woofers on that! Quote
steveplym Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 I think David Maxwell posted that link a few years ago. He said he had good luck with that and I see others have too. If you don't want to switch, you can always use it to charge your cell phone, GPS, or a modern radio. Quote
52cambridge Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 I wonder if you could run more than one power inverter. Say, one for the radio and one for accessories? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 I have one of these units from Meyer Electronics. It has a 6 amp output capacity and it's powering my radio and an accessory outlet. I haven't powered the radio and GPS together yet, but I don't expect any problems with that combo. http://www.pressenter.com/~cmeyer/MES612PG6A.html Quote
Normspeed Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 I have the same one as Merle. Works great, automatic on-off on demand, 6 amps. I power my XM boombox, cellphone charger, GPS and a 12 volt oscillating fan no problem. I've also powered a small inverter that could charge 4 flashlight batteries. Also I believe they are manufactured in the USA. Quote
