T120 Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 I went to a swap meet today in Red Deer, Alberta - picked up a clock for a P15 Plymouth. The fellow was asking $30 and said it was in working condition. It looked presentable enough,so I bought it.I've seen them on ebay for rather high prices and not something I would ordinarily think of buying as it won't make the car run any better.Anyhow going to a swap meet is enjoyable, buying on ebay isn't quite the same Quote
randroid Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 Ralph, At that price it doesn't need to work. Great buy, and if you run into another I'll pay you a finder's fee. So would a lot of others on this forum, but I asked first so nanner-nanner-nanner on them! -Randy Quote
T120 Posted May 2, 2009 Author Report Posted May 2, 2009 Randy - your name is first on the list. The swap meet in Red Deer is considered large here in western Canada.I didn't see much for the old Plymouths. One of the vendors had a pair of front fenders for a D25 complete with the side stainless. He wanted $150 each.He also had rear fenders at $75.He had them at a meet in Lethbridge earlier this year, nothing else jumped out at me. - Ralph Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 A P15 clock for $30 is indeed a good buy. Have you tried it in the dash yet for fit? The P15 clock does not have a 6 at the bottom as the stem goes thru that place. Quote
claybill Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 in minn last week, we picked up a desoto clock-in-the-glove-box-door...i think from a 49-50? looks real real nice..anybody know for sure what year that clock was there? also plymouth s.s. fender trim. claybill Quote
T120 Posted May 3, 2009 Author Report Posted May 3, 2009 Hi Bob,Yes it is indeed the correct clock.I tried it in the dash and it fits fine,as you mentioned the number 6 is missing and the stem to set the time protrudes through the glass at this point.I was surprised to find one at the swap meet at a price I consider affordable. It is a well made clock by Geo W Borg Corp but there are others as well made that don't fetch such a high price even on ebay.I'm glad not everyone prices there items at a swap meet according to what something similar sold on ebay. The clock seems to work also,I connected it across the battery momentarily and it clicked then started ticking and ran for about 4 minutes.I don't know if this is about normal - I was concerned the clock might have got dust inside as the hole where the dial lamp would go was open. RobertKB Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 Hi Ralph, nice buy in Red Deer. Yes, they run for about 3 or 4 minutes before the points touch and it resets itself. I would recommend a good clean before putting it in your car. I found a clock about 25 years ago for my D25 and had it cleaned and serviced and it is still going strong. Of course, it does not run all the time as I disconnect the battery when the car is parked. Don't forget we have a car run tomorrow to Park Lake. Quote
T120 Posted May 3, 2009 Author Report Posted May 3, 2009 ..Thanks for the reminder Robert, see you tomorrow Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 I bought a P15 clock at a swap meet 3 or 4 years ago for $15 as I recall. The face has gotten a bit dirty, so before being used (likely in the coupe) it will need some taking apart and cleaning. Doubt that it works, but that's not a concern for me. It constantly amazes me the kind of prices the P15 (and other old Plym) parts sell for on ebay. There must be a lot of people restoring/rodding them, with the money handy to pay those rates. But, when I go to a car show, I see either none - or few - of those cars. Where are they? Quote
