Had my OD wired with aingle wire from a toggle switch to the solenoid and it worked OK for a while then got to the point that the solenoid would do nothing when I flipped the switch. Changed the switch, cleaned the solenoid points, replaced the wire still nothing.

So, grasping for straws I went back with a complete factory style rewire with the exception of the wire to the disty. Now it is working like a charm with absolutely no problems. However, I would like to make one minor change.

Is there any way to adjust the speed at which the govenor energizes the system for solenoid activation?

As it is now the govenor kicks in at just about the point I am shifting into 3rd when i am trying to merge into highway traffic. Which sometimes means I am going straight from normal 2nd to 3rd OD. Not good when you are trying to merge. What I would like to do is up the govenor kick in speed by about 5 mph or so if possible. If not I will learn to drive it like it is and shift earlier.

What about pulling the handle out until you are on the freeway?

Why not try letting it go into 2nd OD? I've found that 2nd OD is the perfect gear for merging into traffic on the freeway, then shift directly into 3rd OD and cruise on down the road.

Doh,

Still trying to get the hang of this. I thought I had read that you needed to be stopped to move the handle. Just went back and read the operation again and see that it can be pushed in at any time.

Its amazing what you can learn if you just read the destructions. :o

You have to be stopped or going way slow to pull it out but you can push it in at speed.

According to the info I have on the OD operation, the handle can be pulled out at any speed, but you have to be OUT of overdrive, and have torque (throttle) on the transmission. If you pull the handle out when coasting, the transmission doesn't like it at all... but if you are on the throttle and out of od, the handle will pull out just like if you are parked.

I agree with Marty, let the transmission go into 2nd OD before you shift manually into third gear. I leave the lockout cable pushed in all the time on my OD letting the OD do it's thing, automatically shifting into and out of 2nd OD as I cruise around town. The only time I pull the handle is to decend a steep grade with engine compression braking.
