1937 Dodge Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Great engine rebuild. Glad you kept the L6 engine instead of going to a crate V8. Did Earl give you any torquing specs and compression ratio info whit his aluminum head? Quote
mpn23748 Posted April 15, 2009 Author Report Posted April 15, 2009 here are some pics of the spin on filter adapter, I found this in a local junkyard, attached to a 265 (not the one I rebuilt, I did take the whole motor), it was in an 1950 plymouth, I do not have any pictures with the adapter not installed. This is an full flow Chrysler block Quote
mpn23748 Posted April 15, 2009 Author Report Posted April 15, 2009 65 ft lbs for the torque, and 8:1 compression if I remember correctly. Quote
BeBop138 Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 If I may----what is the distance between the intake ports, center to center. The carbs are very close together, do you see any problem with fuel lines? Thanks......Lee Quote
mpn23748 Posted April 15, 2009 Author Report Posted April 15, 2009 Lee, if you are refering to the intake ports for the carbs they are 7", it will be tight but I will be able to make the fuel lines work. Quote
BeBop138 Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Which cylinders do your flanges face----thanks Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Looks good and I am sure it will really haul. Wish more guys would do this rather than drop a V8 in. It would be interesting to see how a motor like yours compares in acceleration to a regular 350 SBC which is the motor of choice for the majority of hot-rodders. That's a good sediment however to really test it the 265 would need an automatic trans. SBC will not have a three on the tree behind it. The comination of motor and trans is what makes hot rodder's want the SBC. Hey I like the 6's however unless you are cruzing with others of the same technology it becames kind of methodical just my 2 cents:) nothing beats cubic inches. Quote

mpn23748 Posted April 16, 2009 Author Report Posted April 16, 2009 Bebob138, I am not sure what you are asking? Quote
BeBop138 Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Bebob138, I am not sure what you are asking? Your intake flange---the ones the carbs are on---in relation to the cylinders, where do they line up----looking to see how they sit for fuel flow. I am having a intake made.......Thanks Quote
mpn23748 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Report Posted April 17, 2009 motor intake side is 8.25" center to center, carb intake in realation to this is 3.5" from the center motor intake port Quote

mpn23748 Posted May 25, 2009 Author Report Posted May 25, 2009 I finally got the 265 in the Desoto and running, I am quite impressed with how much more responsive the motor is, I was unable to use the headers I had in the previous pictures as they hit the frame, they are getting modified to fit, I installed the ones I got from Langdons for the short term, here are a few pics of the engine in the car Quote
Frank Elder Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 Looking really good, I see the fuel pump is still in place, still going electric pump when the other headers are in? Quote
mpn23748 Posted May 25, 2009 Author Report Posted May 25, 2009 I ran the fuel pump last year with these headers with no problems, when I install the other headers I will install the electric Quote
Frank Elder Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 Yeah I see the Langdons give it a little more breathing room:D Quote
Normspeed Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 What a beauty. You're sure to get more interest (and smiles) with the souped up flattie, than with most other motors. Also, nice to see that 6 volt system in there. Quote
52cambridge Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 If you were to guess, How much HP/Torque do you expect to get? Quote
mpn23748 Posted June 15, 2009 Author Report Posted June 15, 2009 that is a hard one, I asked the engine builders, they guessed at about 150 hp and 250 ft/lb torgue. From the seat of the pants it has considerably more torgue, and accelerates much quicker. I am open to suggestions Quote

Did you have to re-jet them or did you use them right out of the box? I am using the same carbs on my 265 and my rebuild is going pretty much the same as yours, engine is about half done, all the parts are there, we just need to get it together. What kind of tranny are you using? Thanks.....Lee Quote
mpn23748 Posted June 15, 2009 Author Report Posted June 15, 2009 carbs were easy to set up and are very responsive, I have done nothing to them yet, when I install my phillips headers I will be installing the wide band O2 sensor bungs, and will tune it using my wide/band air fuel ratio meter Quote

1948Skip Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 MPN, As much as I like what you did here I have to question the oil filter set up. What kind of a mess do you get changing out the screw on filter? Skip Quote
