After a complete rebuild, I experienced extreme oil pressure. The problem was diagnosed by Merle as a stuck oil pressure relief valve. I did try diligently to shoot the valve out with oil pressure but it did not work. I then got a 9/16 bolt and ground off about 75% of the threads so that the bolt fit tight in the hollow back of the valve. The friction fit was tight enough so that I could pull the valve out by hand. I hope none of you ever have this problem, but if you do, this improvised extractor worked for me. Oh, and one other thing you should try. I asked the Lord for success in extracting this stuck valve. So I think that God likes old Mopars too.

Glad to hear you're repair was successful. I don't feel right getting the credit for the diagnosis, though. As I recall there were several suggestions made on that thread. I'd call it a team effort.

How's your oil pressure now?

Hads the same problem, and pulled my relief valve out with a modified lifter puller tool. Mine moved back and forth with a magnet, right to the edge of the hole, and stuck there. Another way of getting stuck relief va;ves out with the oil pan off is to use oil pressure on the inboard of the two holes that are drilled upward to the relief valve. The inboard hole is the relief hole and the outboard hole is the return hole from the bypass oil filter. Hold the outer hole shut while you apply pressure to the inner one. She'll come out if you have good air pressure application. JMHO
