So usually this time of year, as releases its grip on the northeast region of the country, I try to stir up some interest among member in atting some of the larger shows in the region. So just sightly 30 days from now the spring show and swap meet will be held at the Dutchess county fair grounds in Rhinebeck, NY. I attended this show a few years ago, hot rods and customs on Sat and Historical on Sunday. Over 1000 cars, and a decent swap area.

admission is by preregistration this year and the deadline is 25 April, so if you are planning on attending, you gotta start thinking about it.

Also noticed quite a few new folks form PA and New England. Gotta be some shows in your areas also. So lets get thinking of who and where we travel to.

And remember the POC meet Sept 23-26 in Westminster, MD.

Greg,

Of course, that's a little far for me to attend. But.......you aroused my curiosity when you said "Preregistration only". Most car shows will allow registration the same day as the show, but charge a few bucks extra for doing it. So........took your link. It's $10 for preregistration and $15 for registration at the show.

They have gotten a bit larger over the years, so some later information out after this was posted says they have gone to a pre reg only basis for the judging field. Sever shows around here relegate day of show folks to an unclassified over flow area. They are expectin 1200 entries so there may not be any over flow left, and they get about 20k spectators also.

Greg g,

I've always wanted to attend this show but something always got in the way. I doubt I will register for the show since they sound like kind of an uptight show. In my opinion that's a good way to keep cars away with a Pre-registration only policy, not too smart. Kind of far to drive to be turned away at the gate, then have to park iin general parking and risk door dings and monkeys climbing on your truck.

A really good show to attend is one held in Southbury Ct at the training school held every September. They had close to 2k cars there last year, no pre-registration required although it is an option. huge flea market area, lots of good food. It's put on by the roaring 20's car club and there are some VERY nice pre-1930 cars there to make you drool!!

I usually bring my 59 GMC every year and enter in the truck class.

It not an uptight group, just that the venue is getting close to being overfilled. I haven't been since 04 and did not need to pre reg then but it been growing since. Any spring shows in the CT/Ma area??

I took my Plymouth there in '99, had a good time, we have attended as spectators a number of times on Sundays. Rhinebeck has a very large vendor field, not to mention one heck of an array of antiques on Sunday.

Greg, by the way, don't forget Norwich at the Chenango County Fairgrounds Memorial Day weekend. That is also a very good show both days with a large vendor field also

Another one in my area is a one day show put on by the Rock Hill fire dept usually on the first Sunday in June.

Also in June there is a nice show in Big Indian on RT 28. It is usually the last or next to last Sunday in June.

These last two shows don't have much of a vendor selection, but fun to attend just the same

Bill, if you check that last link I posted for the Rhinebeck show the general admission price is $10 and children under 12 free. So........it'll cost you 10 bucks to just go to the show without a car. That is unless you can convince them you are under 12 years old.:D

Got a reply from the show (Rhinebeck organizer) he said the Holton information is INCORRECT and that registration morning of the evet is still OK.

Bill, I used to go to the Norwich show annually. I stopped going a couple years ago after the committee running the show changed. I went a few years back and there were 6 cars in the class (class 21, 42 to 48 non ford)

waited around through 20 classes of trophy presentation that didn't start till 4:30 after being told it would begin at 3, then waiting through the rest of the presentation to talk to the committee chair. There were still 4 of us there and we were told there were no cars in the class. Then the last time I went, I was assigned to different class because there were no entries in my class. When I got to the field there were 6 or 7 cars parked there. When I went back to the registration table, I was assured there were no other cars in my group. Haven't been back since.

I have gotten over trophies but if they are giving them out they need to do it consistantly and correctly. Have been going to Waterloo, NY. on Memorial day weekend lately. They have a non judged display on main street, a regional meeting of the Woodie Club of America, Waterloo had a factory where most of the woodies got their bodies.

And the village also claims to be the place where Memorial Day originated so they have a village wide celebration with all kinds of activities going on all day.

Greg,

That's why I don't like to enter judging at a car show. I much prefer just going to a cruise in. There are no trophies at most of those and you can go, park the car, walk around and look and talk, then leave when you're ready to leave. I don't need another dust collector to set on a shelf. Have some bowling trophies sitting the shelf in the basement already. No one sees them and they won't buy me a cup of coffee. They just cause more work dusting them off from time to time.

I agree with Norm, trophies are just dust collectors. If they are giving them out at a cruise and I get one then great, but I don't get all bummed if I don't get one, not why I am in this hobby anyway. I'm all about restoring and driving these old cars and trucks. I get all my reward by putting a rusted out hulk back on the road and the thrill I get out of driving them.
