Brad Lustig Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Somebody needs to tell him to take a zero off the end. Quote
Young Ed Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 I'm not sure I'd even pay 150. The stainless is pretty bend up and the L fender looks pretty rusty. Quote
rearview Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 I think somebody watched the Barrett-Jackson auctions one too many times. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 These old Plym parts just keep getting higher. You can "buy it now" on this nice clock from MrPlymouth for only $325. He calls it a very nice clock, so it is not nos-- even. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 I agree, that may not be worth $1500. Not only does the left front fender look rusty, it looks bent too. However, it's the old story. Put the high price on it, if someone buys it great, if they don't that's ok too. Plus someone may need that front end and just send the guy an offer instead of bidding. Remember, he can always lower the price, but he can't raise it. A good example is a pair of hubcaps I just bought off ebay last week. The seller had a price of $9.99 for one hubcap, plus 8.00 shipping. I just bought 3 of the same hubcaps at a swapmeet in September for only $5.00 each. No one bid on the ebay hubcap, so I sent the guy a note and offered him $5.00 for the hubcap, plus shipping charges. He then relisted the hubcap with at $9.99 and added the "make offer" option. I used the make offer option and bought the hubcap for $5.00. He then said he'd throw in a second one just like it for only $2.00 more, making the total with shipping $15.00. So, just like the swapmeets you don't have to pay those high prices on ebay all the time. Here's the hubcap and link to the hubcaps I just bought. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1940s-or-1950s-PLYMOUTH-HUBCAP-WHEEL-COVER_W0QQitemZ320068177721QQihZ011QQcategoryZ33744QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://i12.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/81/07/6861_1.JPG Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 Well, Norm, does that mean there will be a different set of caps on the coupe someday??? Quote
Shawn F. Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 I think somebody watched the Barrett-Jackson auctions one too many times. I second that one! We get people in our shop wanting work done and they expect it to be cheap to them and done in 2 days and then want to resell it for WAY more than we charged them. They watch too much Boyd on TV and BJ as well. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 Well, Norm, does that mean there will be a different set of caps on the coupe someday??? Bob, not necessarily. I decided to pick up a set like these for a couple of reasons. One, they are Plymouth hubcaps (53 Plymouth). I also like them because they have no writing on them, just the small ship in the center. They look almost like moons with a wide trim ring. Second, they are stainless instead of chrome plated steel caps. So they won't rust and pit in time. I'm thinking about using them during the cooler months of the year. Right now they are wall hangers. With the three I bought at the swap meet plus these two, I also have an extra for the spare in the trunk too. That's one reason I didn't want to pay a lot for them too, don't know if they'll ever get on the car. I still like my spinners better. By the way, just received the two from ebay today and they look nice. They were even clean front and back. The ones I got at the swap meet had paint overspray on them. Thought it was dirt when I bought them. Discovered it was paint when I tried to wash them off. No problem though since they were stainless. Got out the SOS and used lots of water and they now look brand new too. Quote
Normspeed Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Norm, I have a full set of those same caps off my 53. Funny thing, they were original equipment on my car, and the rims have no hubcap clips at all. I guess if you went for the full wheel covers you got matching rims. Or, maybe 53 didn't offer small hubcaps. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 I think that may have been the deal in 53 and/or 54. Order full wheel covers, get no cllips. Here is a link to a 54 Belvedere that was for sale in Kansas City in the past few months....I took the pic....which has the small hubcaps and they appeared to be original. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/BobT3/Photos%20of%20old%20cars%20and%20misc/100_1199.jpg It seems as if my Pink & white 54 back in the early 60s had small caps as well. Mine looked just like the one in the photo. Quote

Or, maybe 53 didn't offer small hubcaps. Actually the small hubcaps could have come on all the lower priced car models of Plymouth. In later years they did away with the clips though and used a different wheel with nubs to hold the center caps. I did change my front wheels to Vintique Wheels when I installed the disc brakes. Rear wheels are still original with the clips though. So, the full wheel hubcaps fit both types of wheels. Originally I thought these were 51/52 caps. Finally got around to checking my books though and they are the 53 caps. Seems like they changed full wheel caps styling each year. Even though the 54 Plymouth is the same body style, the hubcaps on 53 and 54 are different. One of those small little changes between model years they made like the fender spears on the 54 and not on the 53. Quote
