Hello, My 39 with dual one barrels runs fine on level ground, but bogs down on hills. I was wondering if any of these items might be the cause? Fuel pump not supplying enough gas, wrong jets (oem), float at wrong level, timing (ok at idle) or? Thanks.

This happen to me a long time ago. I had a crack in the fuel line near the fuel pump sucking air, but did not leak any fuel. Had another problem with a internal collapsed muffler that caused a similar situation.

I had similar problems once, the car would run fine slow and level, it would start sputtering when going highway speed or uphill.

Turned out my fuel line had rusted through. Not only was it sucking air, it had sloughed off enough rusted fuel line to clog the filter in the fuel pump.

A previous owner had put a piece of rubber fuel line over the steel fuel line where it passes through the cross member under the radiator. It must have trapped moisture there as there was no sign of rust anywhere else.

I did replace the line under the radiator, but have not replaced it back to fuel tank, will look into that. I do have a see thru filter between the pump and carbs, seem to be fine. Guess I'll start with checking the fuel pressue, should be what? 4-6 lbs? I just installed a rebuilt vac advance. Guess I'll see what happens. Thanks to all the good info.
