Hounddog Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 While at the napa auto parts store asking about an oil filter for my 1946 plymouth the guy says hey I have a 1946 dodge in my yard I want to get rid of and when I asked he said it was a suicide foor door but had the butterfly hood? Im not a big dodge guy but this sounds like an earlier dodge 30's maybe? He said it has a flat head six and it had the fast drop at the back of the car..the floor is rusted bad but he wants 500 hundred for it..if anyone is interested later this week i can take pictures..Its in oklahoma city Quote
RobertKB Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 The '46 to '48 Dodges do have the butterfly hood unlike the Plymouths, Desotos, and Chryslers with the alligator hood. Not sure why Chrysler did this. If the car is complete, the price is not unreasonable. Certainly worth more in parts than that and it may be an OK car the guy wants to get rid of. Pictures would be great as we all like to see old Chrysler products. Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 46-48 dodge I want one of those guards soooo bad. Quote
RobertKB Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 46-48 dodge I want one of those guards soooo bad. I bet you could get the measurements, buy and then bend some steel tubing, have it chromed, and there you go. Not sure how the ends are attached but someone must know. Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 My guess would be bent hollow tube, mandrel style, then flatten the end and drill the holes...it isn't functional after all, just a dress item. I never thought of making my own, thanks for the boost! Quote
RobertKB Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 If you do, please post pictures of the progress and final product. Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 If I can make a decent copy, I'll send you one and you can have it chromed. Now where did I leave the tubing bender and sand........Actually I dont see why a bender for electrical conduit wouldn't do the job rather easily. Followed by the brake we have at work. Thanks Robert! Sorry for the hijack Houndog. Quote
RobertKB Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 FRANKIE47, no need to make me one. I really appreciate the thought but my Dodge is a Canadian D25 so it would be different anyway. I am glad I was able to give you an idea that you have now run with. Good luck! Quote
Hounddog Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 I dont mind going to take pictures of it I just dont have room for it myself but didnt know if anyone wanted one for a parts car if no one is interested ill just hang out and fix my plymouth how much is a good flathead worth? if it turns over Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 So are you going to buy it or what! Quote
Hounddog Posted February 23, 2009 Author Report Posted February 23, 2009 So are you going to buy it or what! If I bought this car I would end up sleeping in it.. Other than the 46 ply we also have a 97 chevy silverado and a galant(hers not mine) I dont have anywhere to store it!....that being said I really want it. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 As you can see in this pic, they have two holes......the bumper bolt goes thru one of them. It came with some washers to help make it stay in the desired position. Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 No thicker than a handlebar on a bike, not hard to manipulate... Quote

RobertKB Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I'm still in love with your D25 <3 Thanks. The D25's are pretty common in Canada. There are at least three others in the club I belong to and one of them is a club coupe like mine but a lighter blue. Quote
