Would anyone know if the ignition switch used on the 48 to 53 trucks is the same as say the 40-46 trucks?

I've got someone making a tool for removing and installing the bezel on the ignition switch and he would like to know what other years/models/switches/etc that it would work on.

Thanks,

Brad,

The 1947 and older trucks use a completely different ignition switch, as do the 1948-53 Power Wagons.

1954 and up is a bit of a toss up, some of them use the same ignition switch nut as the 48-53 trucks, others don't. Power Wagons don't use that style of switch until 1957, and even then I am not sure the nut is the same style, though it would fit the 48-53 switch. I don't think anything used that ignition switch nut after 1959 or so.

The tool you are making sounds like something I could use, how much?

Eric, thanks for the info.

As far as the tool goes I actually bought it off of eBay because the seller advertised it as fitting the 48-53 trucks. Much to my chagrin it didn't fit. So I contact him and offered to send a bezel from one of my spare switches in exchange for making one that would work as advertised. He accepted and is in the process of making a correct tool now.

With shipping I paid something like $19 total. Considering it only works on one of the bezels that might be a bit high but then again a scratch on the newly painted dash would cost more than that to fix!

I'm going to see if he can make a tool for the other cable/switch bezels.

Brad it might work on some of the other stuff for the late 40s mopar cars. They use a bezel for the headlight knob. So do 39-47 trucks.
