woodie49 Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 I want to get a set of chrome head bolts for my P18. I have seen them on other cars - anyone know where I would find them? Is there somewhere I can go to get the specs on the bolts used in these engines so I could find the right thread size and type, etc.? Quote
greg g Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 Most of them aare probably slip on acorn covers. Check your local truck stop accessories area, you can get them on line at most of the street rod supply places. Shouldn't be more that a buck a piece Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 If you saw the head bolts on my coupe, they are just chrome caps as Greg mentioned. If you want the actual spec's for all the bolts on your car, you can find that in the parts book. They're all listed in there. Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I would suppose you could take the actual bolts to a chrome shop and have just the heads done. The shop that re-did my rear bumper told me to remove the stainless covers from my bumper bolts, and he would then chrome the actual heads. I did....he did....look fine. Otherwise, I use the acorn nut covers on my head bolts. Some of those covers fit better than others, so you might want to take a bolt along to the truck stop to check for fit. They also come in some different sizes and shapes. Quote
PatS.... Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 The chroming process changes the makeup of the metal, so the ability of the head bolt to hold it's torque would be altered, plus the chrome would add to it's dimensions, which would affect how it fit into the threads. That's why they are usually just capped. Google "chroming process weakens" for dozens of articles. Quote
Normspeed Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Here's some onfo on Chevy headbolts that cross over to the flathead six. I'm sure if it's Chevy, quite a few shops probably sell chromed ones. Speedway, etc. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=4822&highlight=headbolts Now, it's the black chrome headbolts that are ***RARE*** Quote
moparalltheway Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I bought some at J.C. Wittney a few years back. The cover type but worked well. Quote
