I want to get a set of chrome head bolts for my P18. I have seen them on other cars - anyone know where I would find them?

Is there somewhere I can go to get the specs on the bolts used in these engines so I could find the right thread size and type, etc.?

Most of them aare probably slip on acorn covers. Check your local truck stop accessories area, you can get them on line at most of the street rod supply places. Shouldn't be more that a buck a piece

I would suppose you could take the actual bolts to a chrome shop and

have just the heads done. The shop that re-did my rear bumper told

me to remove the stainless covers from my bumper bolts, and he would

then chrome the actual heads. I did....he did....look fine.

Otherwise, I use the acorn nut covers on my head bolts. Some of those

covers fit better than others, so you might want to take a bolt along to

the truck stop to check for fit. They also come in some different sizes

and shapes.

The chroming process changes the makeup of the metal, so the ability of the head bolt to hold it's torque would be altered, plus the chrome would add to it's dimensions, which would affect how it fit into the threads.

That's why they are usually just capped.

Google "chroming process weakens" for dozens of articles.
