55 Fargo Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Hi all, I discovered my coil is leaking oil out of the plug in area for the high resistance wire. This was a new coil I got from work, it had sat on the parts shelf in the vehicle maintenance shop for about 20 + years or more, who knows , but a long time. What would cause this, will it fail soon? Norm's Coupe Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 It's probably leaking simply from old age. But...........if it is leaking, it's time to replace it. Probably won't last much longer. Quote

Don Coatney Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 will it fail soon? It sounds like it has already failed. Quote
pflaming Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 I bought a new coil. When I installed it, the bracket I purchased to mount it pinched in the sides, grounded it out and ruined it. DO NOT INDENT THE SIDES OF A COIL. They replaced it at their cost, which they did not really have to do. Just a word of experience. PF Quote
