Hmmmm. The existing broken antennae on my 49 is on the piller beside the windshield. It looks stock but has a more teardrop shaped base. This truck came from factory with a radio. Anyone have a spare antennae like this one?

Does the post of the broken antenna screw into the base?? If so you may be able to remove the remains of the old mast and replace it with a mast from a different unit. If the mast does not come out you can still remove the old mast casing from the post and press a different mast tube over it. I have done this in the past and they work fine but the fit must be tight.

Here's a picture of the antenna on my '53. I had to replace the original and I got the new one from these guys: www.antennax.com. It's an OEM replica antenna and I was able to mount it vertically using a spacer from the original. Only cost $14.99 plus shipping. If you don't have any original parts, you could make a spacer from a small piece of PVC pipe cut to the proper angle. Works like a charm with my 610-T radio :) Zeke

My truck depending whether you go by door tag or go by title is either a 1948 or 1950 model. It has the antenna on driver's side down further on the side directly behind the dodge letters on cab section, about an inch above where fender attaches. The ones in the above pictures has the opening going down through the top while mine goes in the side. The mount is tapered to a point on the bottom and fits flush to the cab side. It is about 3 inches long from top to bottom. The old gal had a radio in it at one time as you can see the scratches on the dash where some one removed the knobs and locking wahers. The lead from the antenna is about 12" long.

When I was in high school, I worked at a Radio / TV Shop doing odd jobs. One of the jobs was to install car radios for local dealers. I installed antennas on a few 56-57 Plymouths, and Chevs using a drill and a hole cutter / die. (I still have the tool and I'll go snap a picture for a add on post) I would get to decide where to mount it based on where I could feed the antenna wire. Usually that meant the front fender where I could reach in to add the bottom half of the tool and where I could feed the wire through. I always mounted them on the Passenger side because of access. So there you have it, a 16 year old kid decided where to poke a hole in your new car. The cars were from Grand Forks North Dakota. Can't ever remember doing a pickup.

Gosh, now I even remembered who made the tool. GreenLee

Even though I have the tool and know how to use it, I wasn't about to put a hole in my truck. I put a 2x2 in the box hole and mounted a antenna on that. Got a real long lead and ran it under the cab and up the firewall to my glove box where my 12v radio sits. Cant hear it anyway at road speed. Just good for parades.

My 49 is equipped as shown. The mast was broken off and I bought a replacment that clamped on the remaining stud at a swap meet for $2.00.

The shape of Mr. Fowler's antennae base looks the most like mine ( see yellow cab pic above). I guess the consensus is that depending upon the dealer's preferences the antennae could have been installed in a variety of locations and still be correct. I prefer to leave mine where it is rather than cut a new hole. I will try the suggestion made about adding a new rod to my base. thanks for all the input.

Here is the picture with the 2x2 in the corners. I added the antenna one one corner, then I have a flat steel plate on the other for the Magnetic CB antenna.
