48mirage Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Found the oil pump cover gasket leaking. Go to my parts book and find it is 2 17/32" Id by .085" thick. Well that's not something I have or can readily cut out of a gasket sheet. ('49 Dodge Coronet, 230 L6) I've tried a couple of the supply sources and I've found replacement pumps but not the cover gasket. Any one have any leads? When I pull this cover is the rotor going to try to fall out? Jim Quote
grey beard Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Try Turrell Machine in TX. They're listed in the links section. Lot'sa old surplus flattie stuff and they're very knowledgeable. Give 'em a call. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 When we were looking for the gasket to the block i seem to recall all we found was the cover gasket. Quote
oldmopar Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 If you make a gasket you should be able to put a few together to get to the correct thickness Quote
48mirage Posted November 17, 2008 Author Report Posted November 17, 2008 I've pulled the cover and discovered that is not really a gasket but an o-ring with a square cross section. My local machinery supply house doesn't carry the square cross section. I did find the right OD/ID at mcmaster carr, the thickness appeared to be about .005 over but I don't think that would be a problem. They only had the Buna-N rated for service of -20F to +225F. I don't have the time to wait on an order so I'm going to use a little hylomar and see if I can get this thing to seal. Quote
