Bingster Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 I'm in need of the passenger side rear fender stainless trim molding for my '47 DeSoto S-11 sedan. I have the driver's side and know of a source for a NOS driver's side rear fender molding. However, the passenger side molding is hard to find. It seems to me that they could be interchangeable. It would make sense that DeSoto would make one to fit both sides and save on tooling costs. Does anybody know if the right and left side moldings are identical? Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 I've really never looked at that trim very close. However, there are two possible ways to see if the left and right are the same. I doubt that they are though. Anyway, look at the ends. One end may be more pointed than the other. Another is the shape of the trim overall. Could be like the front fender trim on the P15. The ridge on the front fender trim is slightly higher on the top or bottom (forgot if it's the top or bottom). So, if you interchange sides one side will have the ridge slightly higher than the other. However that is such a slight difference, if you put the left side on the right the average person wouldn't know the difference. Even I have to look real close to tell the difference on them and I have a set on the car and a new set off the car. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Here's a 47 DeSoto....... I don't think rear fender trim was standard, but added later. Or, maybe an ordered option. These do have rear stainless. Looks like it might be switchable for the other side. Can't really tell for sure. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 The pics look left and right models, can't say for certain on the DeSoto but the D24C's got left and right pieces Quote
Bingster Posted October 15, 2008 Author Report Posted October 15, 2008 Thanks for the photos and input. I'll do some checking. Quote
