Bingster Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 I have a 1947 DeSoto S-11 Custom sedan that I am restoring and can't figure out if the deck lid weatherstripping was glued to the deck lid itself or the channel groove around the trunk. Anybody know and if so, where can I get a match? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Far as I can tell, the weather strip goes into that channel running around the edge of the trunk lid. Took this pic of an old Plym in a salvage yard. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 not sure if this is any help to you...the Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler all shared the same body basically form the cowl to the rear...changes were most forward of the cowl...anyway..my CD does not show a pic of the weatherstrip ont eh DeSoto but my factory Dodge book shows it affixed to the body shell...I have always been amazed at the different ways that a Plymouth is built in comparison to its big sisters.. De Soto Frank Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 Bingster, I have a '41 De Soto sedan (same body & deck-lid as the '46-'48); my trunk weatherstrip is set into the channel in the body. Don't have an answer on source for new weatherstrip; I would start with Steele Rubber ? Good luck... De Soto Frank Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 Here's one ebay seller of trunk rubber. May be where I got mine. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHRYSLER-PLYMOUTH-TRUNK-RUBBER-1946-70-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10076QQihZ013QQitemZ230291035662QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I put mine in the channel because I haven't gotten all the old, hardened original off the lid. PatS.... Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 My '49 Chrysler is in the channel as well. Same with the '49 Chrysler parts car. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 NExt question - if the strip is in the channel, is it hooked over the inner edge of the trunk opening?? There would be a groove in the rubber for that purpose. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 think it is a rectangular syle rubber that is located in the grove itslef..nothing over the lip Quote
Bingster Posted September 19, 2008 Author Report Posted September 19, 2008 Thanks very much. I appreciate the info. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 (edited) Bingster...got home this evening and took the camera to the barn..here is what I found..the rubber is indeed body shell mounted..however it DOES curve over the inner lip of the channel..here are a couple shots...hope this will help you..
