'47 DeSoto Deck Lid Weatherstripping

Recommended Posts

I have a 1947 DeSoto S-11 Custom sedan that I am restoring and can't figure out if the deck lid weatherstripping was glued to the deck lid itself or the channel groove around the trunk. Anybody know and if so, where can I get a match?

Far as I can tell, the weather strip goes into that channel running around

the edge of the trunk lid.

Took this pic of an old Plym in a salvage yard.

not sure if this is any help to you...the Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler all shared the same body basically form the cowl to the rear...changes were most forward of the cowl...anyway..my CD does not show a pic of the weatherstrip ont eh DeSoto but my factory Dodge book shows it affixed to the body shell...I have always been amazed at the different ways that a Plymouth is built in comparison to its big sisters..

Here's one ebay seller of trunk rubber.

May be where I got mine.

I put mine in the channel because I haven't gotten all the old, hardened

original off the lid.

NExt question - if the strip is in the channel, is it hooked over the inner

edge of the trunk opening?? There would be a groove in the rubber for

that purpose.

Bingster...got home this evening and took the camera to the barn..here is what I found..the rubber is indeed body shell mounted..however it DOES curve over the inner lip of the channel..here are a couple shots...hope this will help you..
