vanbuskirk Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 A couple of days ago, I talked to George about my poor mileage problem. My '54 with 3.73 rear end and 230 and overdrive gets only 15+ mpg. He suggested checking the distributor, vacuum, timing, and maybe the carb. Anyway, he has sold 5 overdrives in the last month. He has rebuilt about 25 this year, including one for a doctor in Switzerland, which cost $500 US to ship. After installing and checkout, the doctor is going to drive the 1950 Plymouth 11,000 miles from China to Paris. I am envious. Bob Quote
Guest jerry_tyler Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 Ive never met George before. But have talked to him. He sure sounds like hes been doing this awhile. Seems like a fine fella. jerry Quote
1949P17BC Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 I am one of the 5. Can't wait to get it in my 49. Quote
greg g Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 Bob, have you had any luck chasing the mileage gremlin. I know you had some problems with cam timing gear and chain etc. at on point. Is that corrected? Quote
vanbuskirk Posted January 3, 2007 Author Report Posted January 3, 2007 I have not been working on it, but I have a carb rebuild kit. Another thought I had was that the early 230 carburetors were not so good and later 230s had a better carb. The car runs fine, it is just too thirsty. Bob Quote
