aero3113 Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 I am due for an inspection on my 50 plymouth in september Can I bring it to any shop that does inspections or do I have to find one that caters to old cars? Quote
1948Skip Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Aero That is a good question. I would want somebody that knows old cars. Particularly due to the rear drums and the left hand threads on the car. You don't want somebody banging on the end of the axles to get those drums off. You could easely wind up with damage inside the rear or broken and stripped lug bolts. I deal with a fellow who trusts my word on the brakes and he does not pull any wheels. Skip Quote
Powerhouse Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 I used to take it to a regular mechanic...he was a crook and a jerk all in one..Gospel auto...anyway...they would actually rev my engine up for fun when they had NO business doing it in the first place. TRY to find a reputable "OLD TIMER" to do your inspection....you might want to ask around...if you know Marty Himes..he's got a good guy in Bayshore....but there are a lot of guys that are OK. Just not Gospel... Quote
greg g Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Any place with and inspection placard on the building has to do it. Should be 10 bucks. I have taken mine to Monroe a couple times. and the guys who did my exhaust have done it a couple times also. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 I think the inspection on Long Island includes emissions and is a lot more expensive than $10. Might be different for historical registrations. You might want to check out www.nysdmv.com for more details. Harold Quote
JerseyHarold Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 Didn't know those are the current regulations in New York. They're a lot more realistic than New Jersey. The only good thing here is that you can go through a state-run inspection station (with different stations for different components....like a car wash without water) for free. You also have the option of going to a private repair garage for your inspection. They charge a lot and are nit-picky so they can get you for repairs. The surprising thing I heard recently is that NYS titles (for 1973 and up) are now a whopping $50. each. Quote
