Hey,

Since the charging gauge is wired in a series, can I temporarily jump the two sides together to see if my gauge is open? I don't want to fry anything, and I am willing to go with the GM style alternator. However, I hate to give up on the 6V system that I have invested a ton of money into. I have rechecked the schematics, and as I've said before, everything is new and should work. Any suggestions? Tim and all of you are so awesome. Thanks to everyone for their advice.

Brian, if you have a multimeter, put it on your battery and see if the voltage reading goes up when you start the car. The generater should put out a slightly higher voltage. From your posts, it sounds like either the generator is bad or maybe something isn't wired quite right. You can also put the multimeter in amp mode and put it in series with the battery as an alternate amp meter.

I know this probally sound silly, but I found a NOS regulator on e-bay. When I bolted it down, I found the orig holes. The truck had been hacked to a 12v. It was a very poor quality conversion. When that old truck came back to life and ran under it own power, I felt like a hero that had brought it back to life. It is now wired just the way it was designed by Dodge. I feel great!!!!
