Carburetor Return Spring Location?

I've checked all the books and pictures I have and can't figure out how to attach the carburetor return spring. When I got the truck (F1BA) there was a jury-rigged spring that went to the fender! Can someone tell me where it goes? Thanks.

On the 39-47 dodges it goes to the head of a cotter pin thats put through the firewall.

On my '53 B-4-C the carburetor return spring is connected to a cotter pin in the floor boards. The previous owner also had another spring attached to the fender. I have taken this extra spring off and the throttle linkage works fine without it. Zeke

I have to admit it. I had to install a second spring over to the inner fender panel to get it to idle properly.

Thanks for the posts. I can readily see where a spring to the fender goes. It needs to pull the throttle plate lever back toward the fender. I can't see where the spring to the firewall would attach. Can someone either post a picture with the detail or e-mail me a picture? Thanks.

Here's a 39-47 cowl and you can just see the spring at the bottom. There is just a little hole right where the floor meets the cowl and thats where the cotter pin goes.

Here's the original clip on my 52. I couldn't get a spring that pulled the linkage back to idle position.

It could be Ed. Maybe that's why the return spring wouldn't pull back enough. I'll have to check down lower for the cotter pin.

Jim.....here's how my speedo cable is routed. I think it's original on my 52. Not sure on the 48-50's

Man, it's time to install the new firewall pad.

Thanks everyone for the posts. There was a cotter pin in the spot pointed out in the picture! Guess I know what goes there now. However, I still don't where the other end of the spring attaches. I couldn't figure it out and couldn't see in the picture. It was cut off. Do you have a picture of the linkage where it attaches? Thanks.

This spring goes to a different place but the linkage end is right. It takes the place of one of the cotter pins that holds the linkage together.

I finally found the little lever with a hole in it for the spring on the rod that goes to the throttle linkage. It seems to me that a single spring should be sufficient. I'll see when I get it all back together. Thanks again everyone and have a good holiday season. Phil
